Know Organ Systems in Humans and Their Functions

Organ system in humans is a collection of various organs that have their respective functions, but can work together to maintain the continuity of bodily functions completely. For example, the digestive system which consists of several organs, including the stomach and intestines, although each has a special function, but together work to digest food. Likewise with other organ systems.

Various Organ Systems in Humans

The human organ system is divided based on its function. The following is the organ system in humans and their functions:
  • Sensory system

  • The sensory system consists of five senses or commonly known as the five senses. Namely the eye that functions to see, the ear to hear, the nose that functions as an olfactory device, the tongue as a tool to taste, and finally is the skin. Particularly the skin is part of the integumentary system, the system that covers organs in the body. Besides functioning as a sense of touch and taste, the skin is also a protective body from the entry of harmful microorganisms and chemicals, helps regulate body temperature, and keeps the body from losing fluid too quickly.
  • Cardiovascular system

  • The cardiovascular system consists of the heart (cardio) and blood vessels (vascular). The cardiovascular system is responsible for pumping and circulating blood throughout the body (blood circulation). The blood itself is a means of transportation for oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, hormones, and various other substances, from and throughout the body.
  • Respiratory system

  • The respiratory system is one of the vital organ systems in humans that functions to inhale the oxygen needed by the body and remove carbon dioxide as a metabolic waste. The respiratory system consists of the nose, throat, larynx, trachea and bronchi, and lungs. Among these respiratory organs, the lungs are the largest organs that function in the exchange of oxygen gas and carbon monoxide.
  • Digestive system

  • The digestive system allows the body to receive food, convert, and process food into nutrients through chemical breakdown processes. This process occurs in the organ system which includes the mouth, diaphragm, esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, and intestine.
  • Reproductive and urogenital system

  • The reproductive system is divided into male and female reproductive systems. The male reproductive system includes all organs used during sexual intercourse and produces offspring (procreation). Consists of the penis, testes, epididymis, and vas deferens.
While the female reproductive system includes all the organs needed for sexual intercourse, pregnancy and childbirth. Organs in the female reproductive system include the vagina, uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes. Meanwhile, the urogenital system is an organ system related to reproduction and urine excretion.
  • Nervous and musculoskeletal system

  • The nervous system consists of all nerve cells in your body, both sensory nerves and motor nerves. The nervous system allows humans to feel, understand, and respond to the surrounding environment. The nervous system also plays a role in body movement, along with the musculoskeletal system. The musculoskeletal system includes muscles (musculoskeletal) and bones (skeletal). In general it functions to move the body, maintain posture and balance, produce body heat through metabolism, and protect organs in the body.
  • Endocrine system

  • The endocrine system consists of a series of glands that produce and release hormones that the body uses to control various bodily functions, such as breathing, metabolism, reproduction, movement, growth, sensory perception, and sexual development.
  • Excretion system

  • The excretion system consists of sweat glands, kidneys, bladder, ureters and urethra. Excretion system is an organ system in humans that functions to remove metabolic waste, and substances that are considered toxic by the body.
  • Immune system

  • The immune system is an immune system consisting of special cells, proteins, tissues, and organs of the human body, which protect the body from various causes of infection and other substances that may be harmful to the body.
Organ systems in humans carry out their respective functions, but are still interrelated and mutually supportive. Keeping the organ system functioning optimally, it is very important to ensure the body is able to undergo daily activities. Therefore, implement a healthy lifestyle from an early age, in order to maintain the health of organ systems and their functions.
